Chinese delegation visit Scoil Mhuire
We were delighted to be chosen to facilitate a visit to our school from a delegation from the People’s Republic of China led by His Excellency Mr. Ji Bingxuam – The Deputy Speaker of the National People’s Congress. The Chinese party numbering 25 also included His Excellency Dr. Yue Xiaoyong – The Chinese Ambassador to Ireland and a number of high ranking party officials. Mr. Sean O Fearghail – Ceann Comhairle , his staff and personnel from the inter parliamentary office accompanied the Chinese visitors.
The pupils formed a guard of honour to welcome the visitors and were enthralled when the motorcade arrived accompanied by police motorcycles with lights flashing.
The purpose of the visit was to give the visitors a glimpse of the academic, cultural and sporting life of an Irish primary school. The agenda included a visit to a classroom to observe a lesson being taught. Various classes and groups also sang, danced, played music and displayed their expertise in traditional Irish games such as football and hurling as well as gymnastics and karate.
The school presented Mr. Ji with a painting of the school crest produced by the children. Mr. Ji painted a number of pieces using Chinese Calligraphy. He outlined the messages that his work depicted and presented them to the school.
The visitors were effusive in complementing the school on what they observed and enjoyed during the visit. They were also very appreciative of the welcome they received and the Chinese influenced bunting and artwork on display throughout the school.
The pupils and staff are to be complemented for their tremendous efforts in making this historic day so special.
