Our School, Our Town

In 2011, the parents in the Scoil Mhuire Parents' Room took on a challenging project - Our School, Our Town.
The parents committed to developing a booklet to support the history and geography curriculum in the senior school - looking at the history of both the school and the town. Past pupils were interviewed, local historians spoken to, tours of the town and school taken and research completed. The parents worked with a tutor, Marie Breslin, to write the book and we published it. It is now being used as a resource booklet for the classes here in our school.
The parents also decided to make a wall hanging for each school - the Junior and Senior School. The Junior School wall hanging was developed under the watchful eye of Emer Clarke, a community artist who teaches with the VEC and the Adult Basic Education Service in Kildare. She developed the parents' confidence and skill so much that they felt able to complete the Senior School project without her. They did a fantastic job and the wall hanging now hangs in the entrance hall of our school.
