Climate Action Week 2019
Our green schools committee have been very busy this term! Children from all class levels learned an Autumn poem and created some beautiful art for our notice board in celebration of National Tree Day.
Aidan from Envirokids visited our 5th classes and delivered a really interesting workshop on biodiversity and our environment. He told us all about how we can help the environment by reducing, reusing and recycling materials. The children were amazed to learn about how significant bees are with regards to the survival of our planet. All of the classes took part in a fun quiz with Aidan and we learned lots about biodiversity.
Climate Action week took place in our school. The Green Schools committee delivered new WEEE battery recycling boxes to all classrooms. A survey was conducted by the committee with children from each classroom. Over 70% of children had an awareness of what climate change was and how we can help to lessen its effects on the environment.
We ran an art competition for 3rd and 4th class. The winners were as follows:
3rd – Dara Courtney – Ms. Mackell’s room
4th: Audrey Hanna Romero – Ms. Bourke’s room
Amy Daitol – Mrs. Rowland’s room
5th and 6th class took part in a story competition and the winners were as follows:
5th – Jason Curran with a story called “Amazon Rainforest” – Mrs. Nea’s room
6th – Cadie Lee Costelloe with a story called “The Homeless Polar Bears” – Mr. Demspey’s room.
The entire school took part in a Biodiversity/Climate change quiz on Thursday 24th of October. All classes had great fun and the winners took home some lovely prizes! Our winners were team 75 from Mr. Dunning’s room. Well done to everyone!
