Bookmark Project
Parents in the parents’ room in Scoil Mhuire designed bookmarks and choose or wrote poems about ‘play’ for them, encouraging positive play.
Last year the local committee comprising of community members, teachers, parents and principals decided on a number of different ideas that would support parental & family structure, encourage good parenting, enhance parent-child relationships and encourage constructive co–operative play. With support from the Family Resource Centre, Dara Park, the Department of Social and Family Affairs funded our project.
We compiled an “After School Activity Directory” with all the relevant data local activities in the area of Scoil Mhuire, Family Resource Centre, Dara Park and the Kildare Youth Services which you have already received. Copies are still available if parents would like one.
We had a skipping instructor who worked with the 5th Classes in February and the 2nd Classes in April. At the end of each day there was a demonstration for the entire school of all the skills learnt at the workshops. The children are still displaying these on the school yard at lunchtime.
Parents in our Art Class created and designed the bookmarks and were very enthusiastic and proud of their handwork. They were photographed in order to keep the 3d effect and then sent to the printers. Children from last year’s 2nd, 5th and 6th classes wrote some of the poems. Parents themselves also selected and/or wrote suitable wording for the bookmarks. These bookmarks are very supportive of co–operative play, positive parenting and effective socialising and one is being given to each child as a gift from the parents in the parents’ room. We hope you enjoy…
Home School Community Liaison is here to help bring parents closer to their child’s education. If you need or want support, please feel free to contact us at the above numbers.
