Food Appeal
Scoil Mhuire Senior School, Ballymany, Newbridge
Over the years, Scoil Mhuire Senior school has raised substantial amounts of money for local charities, during the Christmas season.
Few homes have been left unaffected by the economic downturn, yet despite this, the children supported by their parents and school staff have found it in their hearts to dig deep and give to those less fortunate than themselves.
Parents and children produced an impressive array of cakes, buns, books and toys for the annual Christmas Sale of Work. The Carol Singers from the 4th classes sang in Dunnes and Tesco. A total of 3361 euro was raised, which was distributed among a number of local charities.
In response to the huge problem of food poverty in Kildare, 6th class children donated food items and presented food hampers to the local St. Vincent De Paul society for distribution.
“Actions speak louder than words” and the children have shown by their generosity of spirit that they are aware of the plight of their neighbours and are willing to take action. Well done everyone!
The photographs shows some of the 6th class pupils presenting the Christmas hampers to Damien Molineaux of the St. Vincent De Paul society. Also in the photograph is Mr. Brophy, Deputy Principal and 6th class teacher.
